It takes a mountain
‘It takes a mountain’ is a song I wrote about three years ago. Recently I decided to dust it off and experiment a bit with stop motion photography. Armed with my little point and shoot camera and a series of drawings, I headed out on a beautiful November morning to make this video. Here is the result!

I played a half hour set with Rowan Lipkovits backing me up on accordion. It was a lovely event in support of the WWF campaign to save the spotted owl.
One early morning last week I met up with the very talented Caelie Frampton and we headed over to Hastings park for a photo session. You can see some of them here!
The Rent Tapes: Vancouver Gentrification/Displacement Mix
The other bit of news is that ‘I Call home’ (the Orchid Studios version) was included on the Rent Tapes: Vancouver Gentrification/Displacement Mix. Three cheers! It was distributed at the Rent Assembly last weekend, and there are still a few copies left that are being sold at Spartacus Books.
The Rent Tapes is actually on a real cassette tape, by the way. Oh, memories of tapes unraveling in my backpack and using a pencil to wind them back in again. And mix tapes. And buying my first Ani Difranco album on CASSETTE TAPE (I am old) at HMV at Lougheed Mall in 1995. Y’all, it was the last copy and the woman at the cash register had set it aside for herself, but she decided to sell it to me instead. What if she hadn’t? My entire life could have gone in a whole other direction.
Recording at Orchid Studios
Earlier this month I was thrilled to get the chance to work with Rory MacDonald at Orchid Studios to re-record “I Call Home”. It was my first time recording in a real studio, and it was a lovely space, with all sorts of neat equipment. I learned a lot.
Rory was generous with his time and skills and I am excited about the end product. I hope to share it here soon.

Featuring April 18th at the Music on Main Open Stage
I’m playing a feature set at the Music on Main Open Stage on April 18th (3981 Main St ). Show starts at 8pm. Such a nice group of people, I think it’ll be great fun.
In other news, I am working on recording a few of my songs. My progress is slowed by the fact that I am recording in my low-slung basement with pipes running overhead. But I am still buoyed with excitement and I hope I can share a bit of what I’ve been up to soon.
